Spicy Awadhi cuisine from Northern India

Indian Express at 18 Murray St. in Lower Manhattan serves the spicy food of Northern India. Authentic dishes typical of Ahwadhi cuisine are flavored with cumin, garlic, ginger, turmeric and other spices, cooled perhaps with a side dish of raita (yogurt and grated cucumber) or a mango lassi beverage. The restaurant is in an attractive room with a brick wall, high ceiling and the soothing sound of a water feature. Dinner is 15% off through April 30.

Indian Express, 18 Murray St. (between Broadway and Church). 212-608-5555. Open daily for lunch, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and for dinner, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. All-you-can-eat lunch buffet, $13.95. Dinner entrées, $12.95 to $22.95.
